FULL ITINERARY
DAY 1 | ARRIVAL IN LUANG PRABANG
We will collect you at the Airport and transfer you to your hotel.
Enjoy the evening, unwind and explore this true Gem of a city, The peninsula in the confluence of the Nam Khan River and the Mekong offers a fantastic backdrop to this unforgettable adventure.
Dinner will be served at a local restaurant that offers free vocational training to the marginalised youth of the area.
DAY 2 | ROUNDTRIP TO KUANG SI WATERFALL (60 KM)
Your primary road ride to the scenic Kuang Si Waterfalls will pass through Hmong and Khamu ethnic villages. Enjoy a swim in the clear water basins of the Kuang Si Waterfalls, a must-see site for anyone visiting Laos. On the Way back to the city we will call at Laos Buffalo Dairy for a tour of this incredible farm that supports local villages and educates in Animal welfare and husbandry. and also makes amazing Ice Cream, Lunch is a picnic in the Farms Pagoda.
DAY 3 | LUANG PRABANG – Pak ou Caves - NOng Khiaw (60 KM)
Our ride today begins with a boat ride on the Mekong to the famous Pak ou Caves. This is a site of ancient spiritual significance, both Buddhist and animist. Within the two caves of Tam Ting are stupas, shrines, and carvings of Buddha. Over 4,000 wooden figures of Buddha, many highly ornate, stand within the natural limestone caves, a testament to the skill of Lao craftsmen through the centuries.
We will then cycle through the countryside on tarmac roads to the Nam Ou dam and board a smaller boat for a cruise up the Nam Ou River to the backpacker town of Nong Khiaw
DAY 4 | 100 Waterfalls trek
'Wow, wow, wow...' is what the first travellers said after coming back from this simply amazing waterfall hike and river trip!!!
Starting the day with a peaceful boat ride on the Nam Ou you will be able to explore a small Lao village along the river side before heading into the waterfalls. Learn about their way of life along this river!
Walking through small streams and rice paddies you arrive at the base of the 100 waterfalls. For the next few hours, you will see only water and jungle and hear the sound of clear waterfall cascades. The pools around you are very inviting for a refreshing splash.
Your guide will lead you through the cascades and prepare a local-style lunch on the falls in the middle of amazingly green nature...A small villagers’ trail on the top of the 100 waterfalls will lead us back down into the valley offering wide views over the landscapes of the Nam Ou valley.
Hike back to the Nam Ou River for a boat transfer back to sleepy Nong Khiaw.
DAY 5 | nong khiaw - Namkat yorla pa resort (45 - 80 KM)
We begin today with a 30km ride along the valley, Limestone Peaks tower on either side of the road. When reaching Pakmong we will transfer to the top of Oudomxay Province from that viewpoint we will continue to cycle downhill to the bustling town of Oudomxay, a short transfer around the city before the final 15km leg to the picturesque resort of Namkat Yorla pa situated in the forest on the banks of the Kat River.
DAY 6 | Namkat Yorla Pa Adventure day
After a long breakfast, you can take your time to explore the resort and take part in many of the activities this spectacular Park has to offer, as standard we would recommend the viewpoint trek and the ziplines to create a truly memorable adventure in this jungle paradise.
DAY 7 | Namkat yorla pa - bam kavang (70 KM)
In the morning we will transfer to Oudomxay City before beginning a 50km ride to Muang Beang and then to the small village of Kavang. After lunch in the village, we will learn about coffee production and how Arabica beans provide sustainable income to the farmers. The UpLao program empowers the community and Provides alternatives for non-sustainable intensive crop farming and slash & burn agriculture by training sustainable agricultural techniques focusing on soil improvement and preservation.
This small rural community will share their hospitality with us this evening and we will get an authentic take on rural Laos living.
DAY 8 |Ban Kavang -pakbang (49 KM)
We say goodbye to the farmers of Kavang and cycle through banana and teak plantations to the riverside town of Pakbeng, where a comfortable riverside hotel awaits. relax in the afternoon and watch the elephants and mahouts bath in the Mekong as the sunsets.
DAY 9 | Pakbeng and Mekong Elephant Park
The Mekong Elephant Park is a venture that puts the complex issues of the Elephant population of Laos at the core of their programs. This fun and informative tour will be the highlight of your trip. The centre is an ‘Animal First experience’ with a welfare policy in line with the current global guidelines for the care and treatment of our pachyderm friends. The park is based around experiencing natural behaviour in a natural environment and is non-riding. Half-day itinerary includes a detailed presentation of the elephant situation in Laos, walking next to the Elephants and watching them bath with their Mahouts.
DAY 10 | slow boat to luang prabang
Sit back and relax as the slow boat chugs down the mighty Mekong, stopping to ferry goods and passengers to remote villages nestled on the banks of the river, enjoy a Lao picnic lunch on board and remember to bring a good book. we will arrive in Luang Prabang at around 5 pm and transfer you to your hotel in good time to enjoy the Hmong traditional night market.
