LUANG PRABANG - MUANG NGOI - MUANG KHUA - NAYANG- LUANG PRABANG
The Extreme nature of the route requires a level of fitness for experienced cyclists only, this is a new route not offered anywhere else on the planet. Distances can be in the region of 80km a day on dirt roads and single tracks traversing streams and rivers and climbing jungle pathways.
Oudomxay province is a diverse region of laos and is home to Khammu, Thai Dam, Thai Daeng, Yao, Leu, Hor, Hmong, Akha, Yang, Bid, Lolo and others. Each group has its own practices in respect to marriage customs as well as specific. There are 39 recognised dialects Spoken the province.
The Remote nature of the tour allows us to operate in Dry season only (Nov- Feb).
We like to keep the groups small and exclusive as to ensure a low impact on the communities we will visit. Cyclists will be rewarded by the spectacular jungle scenery and big climbs. The tour is perfect for those excited by remote and challenging adventure. Rest days and other activities such as trekking and kayaking can also be added to create diversity within the program.

FULL ITINERARY
Day 1 | Luang Prabang (D)
We will collect you at the Airport and transfer you to your hotel.
A welcome dinner and tour briefing at Khaiphaen a local vocational training restaurant that trains marginalised youth for careers in hospitality from the surrounding villages.
Enjoy the evening, unwind and explore this true Gem of a city, The peninsula in the confluence of the Nam Khan River and the Mekong offers a fantastic backdrop to this unforgettable adventure.. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 2 | LUANG PRABANG - CHOMPHET DISTRICT (B, L, D)
Today begins with a bike fitting following breakfast, after which we’ll set off for our first ride of the trip.
Today we will warm up our Quads with a gentle push over the Mekong and into Chomphet district. It doesn't take long before gentle city life is behind you the hills and Hmong villages of Chomphet are a glimpse of what lies ahead when you venture into the mountainous expanse of Northern Laos
In the afternoon we transfer out of the city to the small town of Paxang so we can begin our adventure in earnest the following morning. Easy Day 35 km Dirt Road. Overnight Paxang.
Day 3 | CHOMPHET DISTRICT - VIENG KHAM (B, L, D)
From Paxang the road gets tough a Dirt Country highway along the Nam Xang River take you through Khmu Villages and banana plantations to the village of Vieng Kham this challenging first day outside of the city and exciting taste of things to come! is rewarded with a night in a local guesthouse and great hospitality from the locals.
Distance 77km Dirt Road. Ascent 2000m, Decent 1950m.
Day 4 | VIENG KHAM - MUANG NGOI (B, L, D)
A Short transfer in the morning takes us to the start of the trail to Sleepy Muang Ngoi, the road is seldom travelled by bike and is a real treat for cyclists. This road has many villages with no running water or power from Hmong, Khmmu and Leu minorities
Transfer 15km. Distance 46km Dirt Road Single Trail. Ascent 680m, Decent 1430m.
Day 5 | MUANG NGOI - MUANG KHUA (B, L, D)
Today we transfer to the river to board a traditional long boat for the cruise up the Nam Ou river to the entrance to Phongsaly district. We call in at the Sleepy town of Muang Ngoi on the way to stretch our legs and visit the temple and the cave complex used as shelter during the 2nd Indochina war. This boat ride and village stops are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see real Laos village communities and get a feel for the challenges of modern life for most of the population of Laos. Overnight in Muang Khua.
Day 6 | MUANG KHUA - NAYANG HOMESTAY (B, L, D)
We start the morning with a very steep climb as we head south through Maung Khua district this road has some great views for miles over the province. the final stage of this day is an even and steady 20km ride to the Leu Minority Village, Nayang.
We can meet our homestay families and later before dinner the village will perform a Baci ceremony to say thank you for the visit and to wish us luck on our onward journey.
Challenging Day 70km Single Trail Dirt Road. Ascent 1670m, Decsent 1670m.
Day 7 | nayang - harpang (b,l, d)
Leaving the Lue Village we continue south for 10km before meeting tarmac for 19km to Nong Khiaw, a boat awaits to take us to the drop-off point one hour down the Nam Ou River. We then follow the narrow trail 20km along the water's edge. The Van will meet us at the main road for a 20-minute transfer to the Guesthouse in Harpang
Transfer 10km. Distance 49km ( 30km Dirt Road, 19km Tarmac). Overnight in Harpang.
Day 8 | HARPANG - LATHAN - LUANG PRABANG (B, L, D)
Start with a short transfer to the beginning of the mud trail in the Village of Houaylae.
Our final dirt trail is another challenging ride and climbing for the first 17km. the road is open and lush arable farmland. Expect the locals to have a great deal of interest in you as this is well off the tourist trail even though we are only 45 km from Luang Prabang. A Traditional Longtail Boat will be moored in the Village of Lathan and we can cruise back to the City down the Mighty Mekong.
Distance 55 km Single Track Dirt Road. Ascent Approximate 1150m , Decent Approximate 1100m.
